New details about Insomniac Games’ rumored Venom PlayStation 5 game have surfaced online, teasing a more comic-inspired version of the symbiote. The rumors also suggest that the game would have a character swap option like GTA 5.

According to the insider @eXtas1stv, Eddie Brock will headline the game as protagonist, a shift from the last Spidey game. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Harry Osborn served as the symbiote host. Since Harry was slowly dying from a genetic illness, the symbiote transferred to Peter to save his life after he was mortally wounded by Kraven the Hunter.

According to the leak, the game will have three playable characters, including Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Eddie. Players can reportedly switch between the characters. The open-world map is also expected to expand beyond Manhattan and Brooklyn to include the Bronx and Staten Island.

The unannounced title was first revealed in 2023’s Insomniac data breach, which included titles on Wolverine, Venom, and Spider-Man 3. Now that Marvel’s Wolverine is out, Insomniac will likely focus on the long-awaited symbiote game next.

Leaked Venom gameplay details point to a darker, more comic-accurate direction

The leaks also claim that the combat is reportedly more brutal, giving the anti-hero access to new grabs and finishers. Enemy encounters may also see a drastic shift, where the carnage-infected opponents will reportedly attempt to infect the player during fights. Players must execute a well-timed parry to break free.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect is Eddie’s dynamic with the lethal protector. Rather than one side dominating the other, the leak describes a relationship built on coexistence, closer to how comics have long portrayed the pairing. That approach separates the game from the interpretation seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which drew mixed responses from fans.

However, none of these details have been confirmed by Insomniac Games. As per industry reports, the game is still currently in development for PlayStation 5.
